Investing in the Future

I’ve been on the Invest Board for years. I believe in the power of the hands-on training and job opportunities that Invest provides high school and college students.

If these students get a taste of what risk and insurance is truly like, they could be hooked for life.

I recently sat down with my Invest peeps and recorded a video on why Gen Z and risk and insurance are perfect together. In sum:

  • Stability. Insurance has proven to be a financially steady employer for centuries. In a world gone mad, Gen Z seeks stability.
  • Flexibility. Smart insurance firms offer all sorts of work-life balance arrangements for full-time, part-time, in-office, remote and hybrid work, especially in a post-pandemic world.
  • Variety. Think of most types of meaningful work, and the industry has a job. Technology, underwriting, marketing, sales, operations, field work, risk management… Talk about opportunity! If you let those Gen Zs in your tech sandbox, stand aside and watch in wonder.
  • Teamwork. Young people love to collaborate. Insurance is a people-first business, and that is primarily why people enjoy the work and stay.
  • Growth. With the detail in today’s agency management systems, Gen Z can understand exactly how the firm is performing on retention and new business — as well as that person’s individual role in success. “How am I doing?” We have your answer.
  • Beyond Work. Wow, do insurance organizations give back to their communities in time and dollars. That is hugely important to young people.

Generation Z (ages 12 to 28) already makes up 22% of the workforce and will represent one of three workers by 2030.

Will the risk and insurance industry get its fair share of this emerging talent?

Why leave it to chance? Let’s go!
